VIT D DEFICIENCY

Your recent blood test has shown that you are deficient in vitamin D.

You will need to be prescribed a 3 month course of high dose vitamin D capsules. You should have a repeat blood test after 1 month of being on this treatment. To discuss your prescription for vitamin D, please book a phone appointment with your doctor.

For the future we suggest that you take vitamin D supplements at a dose of between 1000 and 2000 international units/day, during the winter months. Some tablets are dosed in micrograms. To convert to international units, you should multiply the micrograms by 40.

However, you should not take Vitamin D if you have had Kidney stones, Kidney disease, Parathyroid disease or other diseases that resulted in high blood or urine calcium, unless it has been advised by your doctor.
